Restorative Exercise

Restorative Exercise 6-Week Series

Restorative Exercise encompasses all aspects of movement – frequency, habits, limitations and alignment – and examines how we respond to the various loads and forces we’re constantly receiving and adapting to throughout our lifetime. In this series, we will practice ‘correctives’ or micro-movements to uncover deeply-set tension patterns, strengthen weak areas and help to restore our body to a more natural way of moving. We will also discuss lifestyle changes that can support our movement outdoors and keep our body in a state of regeneration. New students and those with previous experience are welcome – new content is always added!

Date: Saturdays, October 26 to November 30
Time: 11:15 AM - 12:15 PM
Teacher: Andrea Michaluk
Fee: $150.00 + HST for 6 classes

Meditation

“Engaging in Aging”: Cultivating the Practice of Insight Meditation

When our responsibilities lighten after retirement there is freedom to choose a different focus for how we wish to live our lives. For many, this can be a time to pursue spiritual goals; undertaking inquiry into what we need to let go of; examining our relationship between accumulation and contentment; our attachments and what keeps us stuck in repetitive habits.

With supporting practices of Insight Meditation and Buddhist teachings, sessions will include meditation; readings and discussion. Weekly reflections will be offered. This 5-week series is suitable for anyone wishing to “Engage in Aging” who has some Insight Meditation experience. Attendance at all sessions is requested.

Date: Fridays, October 25, November 1, 8, 15 & 22
Time: 1:00-3:00 PM
Teacher: Donna Paige
Fee: $125.00 + HST for 5 sessions

Therapeutic Movement

Therapeutic Movement for SI Joint Health

Many people experience low back pain around the SI (sacroiliac) joint – the bony connection between the bottom of the spine (sacrum) and the pelvic bones (ilia) which transfers load and dynamic forces between the upper & lower body. While it can often feel stuck, unstable or irritated, this amazingly strong, form-closed joint is surrounded by a high density of muscles, ligaments, connective tissue, blood vessels & nerves which can all impact our experience of this complex area. In this workshop, we’ll explore simple exercises to feel the connections between your upper and lower body and learn how varied & novel movement can help to ease SI joint discomfort. We will also discuss pain science and how our experience of pain doesn’t always indicate where the problem is.

Date: Saturday, November 2
Time: 1:00-4:00 PM
Teacher: Andrea Soos
Fee: $75.00 + HST

Anxiety

Yoga for Anxiety 4-Week Series

For those living with chronic stress & anxiety, yoga has been shown to be an effective adjunct to other prescribed therapies, and invites embodiment, or ‘feeling’ the body, which helps to redirect our attention away from narrative loops that can hijack our mind and elicit uncomfortable physical symptoms. This 4-week series will introduce easy movement, restorative poses, mindfulness practices and iRest Yoga Nidra to relieve tension, calm the nervous system and promote emotional balance. Learn practical skills you can incorporate into your daily life to help you pause, feel your body, and nourish peace of mind.

Date: Thursdays, November 7 to 28
Time: 6:00-7:30 PM
Teacher: Andrea Soos
Fee: $120.00 + HST

Therapeutic Movement

Therapeutic Movement for your Neck & Shoulders

Our shoulders are the most complex joint in our body, with the largest range of movement, and accordingly, they are most susceptible to injury. Our tendency to hold tension in our neck and shoulders and time spent on computers and devices can further aggravate this vulnerable area. Chronic neck & shoulder pain can lead to headaches, wrist pain, postural issues and even hip discomfort. Join Joanne, a certified yoga therapist, to explore the anatomy and physiology of your neck and shoulders and learn simple movements to reduce pain, ease tension, and improve stability and mobility.

Date: Saturday, November 16
Time: 1:00-4:00 PM
Teacher: Joanne Hudspith
Fee: $75.00 + HST
