TEACHER BIOS

ANDREA SOOS

Andrea Soos became a student of yoga in 1994 upon completion of a Life Science degree from McMaster University. She received her yoga teaching certification in 1995 based on the Kripalu method, and began teaching at the Discovery Centre in Ancaster and for McMaster’s Department of Athletics & Recreation. In 1998, Andrea started her own business, offering workshops in the private & public sector and weekly classes in Westdale. As a testament to Andrea’s warm, light-hearted and skilled teaching, these popular classes blossomed, and in 2002 she enthusiastically opened her studio. Her last decade of study has been greatly shaped by Vanda Scaravelli’s enlivening, whole-body approach to yoga. She has deepened her inquiry into this work as a regular student of Helen Duquette in Oakville, and through Anatomy of Movement courses with Jayelle Lindsay in Guelph. She has recently been introduced to Dianne Woodruff’s movement and myofascial work in Oakville, and has found that these techniques and a background in creative movement enhance her own practice and teaching of yoga. Andrea has been a sessional lecturer for McMaster’s Department of Kinesiology, and has mentored yoga teachers for Helen Duquette’s Teacher Training program. She is delighted to be surrounded by such dynamic, creative colleagues and inspiring students, and to have cultivated a career of sharing her love of yoga with others.

ANDREA MICHALUK

Andrea Michaluk completed her yoga teacher training at The Hamilton Yoga Institute in 2001 and has since taught yoga in many spaces. Currently she is focused on the classes she teaches at Andrea Soos Yoga Studio, but in the past has taught at McMaster University and Mohawk College in Hamilton, The Yoga Lounge in Toronto and The Learning Centre in Dundas. She has enjoyed providing yoga workshops for kids and runners and frequently participates in professional development opportunities, studying with Jayelle Lindsay in Guelph and Helen Duquette in Mississauga. Andrea is also a painter, and holds an Art History degree from the University of Guelph.

JOANNE HUDSPITH

Joanne Hudspith began her yoga journey in 1998 as a student of Andrea Soos, completed her teacher training with Helen Duquette in 2005, and has since taught at the studio. She continues to participate in professional development workshops and retreats. In addition to her adult and teen classes at the studio, she has taught yoga in various workplaces throughout the city. Joanne views her teaching as an opportunity to help people make friends with their bodies, and in her own practice she seeks to explore and honour the connection between body, mind and spirit. Joanne is also an avid cook and gardener, feeding body and spirit off the mat.
